About EF English First
EF English First provides the environment and resources that ESL teachers need to grow and succeed. Their state-of-the-art centers come equipped with interactive whiteboards, touch-screen TVs, iPads, printers, and photocopiers to support lesson delivery and enhance student learning.
Teachers receive a full suite of books and learning materials published by EF, access to supplementary resource libraries, interactive multimedia lessons, and academic support from an experienced Director of Studies. EF hires year-round across 60+ cities in China.
What You Can Teach
Teach small classes at EF Centers for Kids and Teens. Engage children and teenagers with interactive, communicative lessons using EF’s purpose-built curriculum and classroom technology.
Teach face-to-face lessons with a maximum of four students, workshop-style classes with up to 25 students, and “Life Club” English conversation classes. Apply the CLT methods from your OnTESOL course to the fullest.
Teach online ESL courses from EF’s Shanghai facility. Online teachers receive the same benefits as adult ESL teachers — a great option if you want to be based in one of the world’s most exciting cities.

Compensation Package

Minimum Requirements
What You Need
- BA degree
- 120-hour Advanced TESOL/TEFL Certificate
- Native English speaker from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, or New Zealand
- Clear criminal background check
- Teaching experience preferred but not essential
Recommended Certification
EF English First requires a minimum 120-hour TESOL/TEFL certificate and offers a qualification allowance on top of the base salary for certified teachers. Since EF offers both young learner and adult programs, pairing the 120-hour course with either the TEYL or Teaching Business English specialist course will prepare you for any EF classroom.
