You will have access to materials for online practice to help you prepare your IELTS lessons. The course covers both the Academic and General Training versions of the test, preparing you for a wide range of IELTS teaching contexts.

The 20-hour Teaching IELTS course is fully online and you will be assigned an experienced tutor to answer your questions and correct your assignments.

Candidates must have an internationally recognized TESOL, TEFL, or TESL certification course in order to take this course as a stand-alone.

If you do not have an initial TESOL / TEFL qualification, the Teaching IELTS specialist can be added to the 120-hour Advanced TESOL/TEFL Certificate or 250-hour TESOL Diploma for an additional fee.

This course takes a minimum of one week to complete, but trainees are given up to 8 weeks to complete the course. Tuition fee includes course material, tutor support, and one official certificate.

Teaching IELTS Syllabus

This course provides detailed information about the IELTS test and equips you with strategies and techniques to teach all four papers. Your understanding of the topics will be assessed through one final assignment.

Understand the structure, format, and scoring system of the IELTS test. Learn the key differences between the Academic and General Training versions, the band score system, and what examiners are looking for at each level. This module gives you the foundational knowledge to teach IELTS with authority.

Explore strategies and techniques to teach the receptive skills papers. Learn how to help students manage time effectively, identify question types, develop skimming and scanning techniques for reading, and build note-taking and prediction skills for the listening test.

Learn how to prepare students for both Task 1 (Academic: charts, graphs, diagrams; General Training: letter writing) and Task 2 (essay writing). Cover assessment criteria including Task Achievement, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy.

Develop techniques to prepare students for all three parts of the Speaking test: the introduction and interview, the individual long turn, and the two-way discussion. Learn how to build students' fluency, confidence, and ability to extend and organize their spoken responses.
