Job Market

As a native-speaking country with close proximity to South East Asia, Australia has a large ESL industry that caters to international ESL students. Immersion programs and university degrees are very popular in this beautiful country, home to 15 World Heritage-listed wonders and unique species.

As in other native-speaker countries, native English-speakers are preferred. Visa regulations vary from country to country, but it is fairly easy for Canadian teachers to apply for a work permit online.

Since there are enough Australian teachers to fill all ESL positions, schools do not pay teachers for airfare and other immigration expenses. Native-speaking teachers from other countries have to get to Australia on their own and apply for jobs in person.

Pay

Wages range from US$17 per hour to US$35 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
